I was given a Crimson queen last month. It is in a 3.5 gal container (plastic). I would like to transplant it to a more permanent container and need some advice: Is it too late this year to transplant...the tree has already leafed out? Do I remove the burlap? What is an optimal size for a wooden container for this tree...? It's about 3 feet high. Thanks.
Hi Manne, I would suggest that you remove the burlap if you can do so without too much disturbance to the rootball. Here's some sites that you should find helpful for sizing your tree's new pot and growing. Lots to click on at the second site on the left side of the page. http://www.mountainmaples.com/WS4D_Cookie=5.24.04_17,39,13_15/Container_Growing.pdf http://www.mountainmaples.com/WS4D_Cookie=5.24.04_17,39,13_15/index.html http://www.japanesemaples.com/information/care.shtml Newt
