We recently moved to a new home with lots of creeping fig covering the concrete walls around our property. The previous owners never removed the stakes from the starts, so we had little bushy clumps everywhere. A landscaper told me to remove the stakes, which I did, but now the root area looks sort of messy.

I've attached photos of pre- and post-stake removal. The clump that grew around the stake gradually disappears, but the bottom looks a little bald and woody. Does anyone have any tips for making the base look tidy and contained? I'm not sure what to do with it. I like the way it looks on the walls.
