I have a "Red Rocket" crape myrtle beginning its second summer and have noticed a large ant burrow right at the root ball. This usually measures very dry when I stick a moisture measuring device anywhere within 3" of the base of the plant. However, the plant shows no distress signs and the leaves seem vigorous and healthy. Will the ant burrow harm the plant or should I just care for the plant as usual and let the burrow play itself out?
