This grew in my vegetable garden and I think it is off a stick I planted out of a planter from last year. Does anyone know what it is?

I believe it's Polygonum orientale, also called "kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate". Chances are it came in as seed from a neighbor's yard, or elsewhere.

Yes, that is what it is .......I wonder where it came from, it usually is in the southern states according to the info I found on it but it is really pretty.......very tall . They say it self seeds, but can I collect some seeds from it after the flowers are done and will they grow next year? Or should I just let it sow itself? Thanks so much for the help. It is a real treat to find a mystery plant in the garden , and a nice one at that.

It's a fairly commonly-grown annual in your area, much less so here. Yes, you can either collect seeds or let it self-sow, whichever you prefer.
