I have gathered some black berries from a Cotoneaster Lucidus hedge and would like to plant the seeds.

I have been surfing the net looking for instructions on growing the seeds but have been finding different suggestions.

Does anyone know if the seeds need to be both Scarified and Stratified.

If planted now in the fall and allowed to freeze, might they germinate or is it too cold in Zone 2/3?

Any other hints or suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

I don't know much about the seeds, but taking cuttings will give better results or at least faster.

Clean off the flesh and plant up, placing where will receive cold treatment - cool greenhouse or similar area. Keep moist and free of weeds, maybe have to watch for birds or rodents. After suitable temperature cycle has occurred I bet they will come right up.
