Hello all of you green thumbs! I'm looking for some advice for planting a twisted hazel. I think they're wonderful for winter interest! I'm wondering what sort of soil they do well in and if I have to find a sheltered location as I live in the interior of B.C. Finally, I've heard that there is a red and a green variety. Any opinions on these? And any other thoughts would be appreciated! Many thanks for all of your advice!

Good drainage main obvious requirement. Red-leaved form can be too expensive for me; when I've found smaller, less pricey stock it's had cankers on the stems. Since Eastern Filbert Blight is present in this region...

It also doesn't stay a good purple all season, in this respect resembling 'Forest Pansy' redbud, less well colored purple-leaved plum and Japanese maple cultivars etc.

Mine grows very well on acid soil in a quite windy spot. Winters rarely below -12C though. HTH
