I have recently picked up a 5gal Cornus Kousa from OSH, but their plants with the same tag and UPC would vary somewhat and they all just say Cornus Kousa.

I found one that was darker green and had a couple of flowers on it already and it looked like it had a graft. I bought one without a graft and the color is a more lime green, no flowers, probably grown from seed.

I really have no idea, there aren't many cultivars so when you are buy a tagged "Japanese flowering dogwood, cornus kousa" what variety is it?

When does Kousa bloom in california, is it summer time? Would the grafted one be a Cornus florida since it already had a flower and the other C. Florida in the store also had a graft.

Here are some pictures of the Cornus Kousa
