Last fall, I planted a small corkscrew hazel in my garden (full sun)

It has many leaves on the base but the top is bare. The buds did come out, but they dried up.

Do you have any suggestions? Should I prune it? I am so disappointed.

If grafted on another kind of hazel - as these often are - your sprouts may not be the corkscrew hazel, which it sounds like has died.
