This flowering plant is perennial in my yard. I know I bought it a few years ago but can't recall its name. It has linear leaves and the stems are long drapey things with many flowers along their length. It is flowering now. Any thoughts on its identity would be appreciated.

Well it does have the approximate structure of a penstemon, except that the lower 3 lobes are sharply reflexed instead of flaring as most of the ones do of which I can find photos, while the top petals are much more ... hood-like, nearly fused. Also, most penstemons seem to me to have upright growth. But I had mostly discounted that option because I don't have the remotest memory of ever buying a penstemon, as in fact I tend to dislike them (Husker Red was plant of the year when I started plant shopping, and it was so aggressively marketed that I think it triggered a lifelong aversion). There is some echo of a different name in my memory, but perhaps the plant was mislabelled.

If a penstemon, would you have any idea as to which it might be?
