   I bought copper beech tree approx 10 years ago and for the first time ever it is bearing fruit,looks like a cherry tastes like a plum, is this normal?

   Your tree sounds more like Prunus cerasifera, AKA Cherry Plum, Purple leaf plum. Might have been mislabelled on account of the purple leaf. Definitely not a beech: beech fruit is a nut, in a hairy burr.
