I purchased two cylindrical planters with 16 holes each and have planted everbearing strawberries in them. My question is regarding winter care and storage. Should they be left out (southern Michigan), put in a shed or garage or could they be brought inside and put in a cool basement? Obviously they need to go dormant but the cylinder is fairly small and I was concerned that they might not winter over well.

Also should I expect any crop this first year?

    Thanks!

I have never grown in one of those vertical containers, but I would agree that it probably should have some protection to get through the winter in Michigan. You could probably just lay it on its side and cover with mulch. Strawberries are fairly tough. I think you just need to keep the deep freeze off the roots.

From strawberries, I would expect at least a small crop this year. Maybe a fairly good one.
