I recently signed up here because the Maple Forum is better than the one at a different forum I belong to. And more importantly I thought the maple photo gallery is a great idea and a great resource. Does anyone else think a conifer photo forum would be a good idea? The ACS maintains a conifer database but, to my knowledge, not just any member is permitted to start uploading photos. The obvious consequence of that policy is the photographic record isn't nearly as comprehensive as the maple forum is here. Of course it's easy for me to suggest this - It's UBC's dime.
I'm not against the idea, and it's not difficult to do so. How many would you be contributing to start? I like to make sure new areas of the forums will have something in them before committing to it.
I have maybe 30-40 different taxons of conifers, mostly cultivated forms, but not all are exemplary specimens yet. But I have also taken plenty of pictures of Texas natives in their habitat, and many pictures of cultivated conifers at gardens and parks that are great specimens. To answer your question, at least 20, 30 good pictures. And I can probably get a couple of other people on board that could do at least that many. That should get you started.
Done. I've a loose task given to me a while ago from the director of the garden to document our dwarf conifer collection, so this'll perhaps prompt me into some action too.
I have made my contribution. I have many other interesting conifers to post. For now I am going to step back and let others chime in. Dave
