can someone help identify a mystery tree? it has dark green compound leaves with 7 leaflets, with leaflets larger toward the end as in a hickory. it has small red berries (2 - 3 mm) in small clusters, and thorns on the branches as well as thorny bumps growing right out of the trunk. the leaves are nothing like hawthorn and not like firethorn either. it doesn't seem to been in any of the common tree guides on line.
thank you!!! it's definitely a zanthoxylum/ prickly ash. probably americanum, though now that i search for it, there are posts that say there are prickly ashes in the area that are the kind szechuan peppers come from. that was amazingly hard to track down. thanks again!
