compound leaves, red berries

    Both plamts have compound leaves and red berries. Pictures are taken in San Diego. Schinus?

    Those are indeed the two commonly cultivated species of Schinus

    1. Schinus areira syn. Schinus molle var. areira
    2. Schinus terebinthifolius

    Why not Schinus molle for #1?

    Only because the Schinus molle is generally less common in cultivation than Schinus areira, which is often sold as Schinus molle. Pretty hard to tell apart in a photograph, so it could well be Schinus molle.

    Thanks! Any useful sources of info on distinguishing them, and their native ranges, please? This sort of info, I'd not trust wikipedia!
