I am a completely novice gardener. We have accumulated piles of Maple leaves over the last month. These are in various states of decay. I have just read a few of the articles on mulching and composting. I have recently spread the Maple Leaves on top of the winter weeds in the vegetable garden and dug them in a bit. Will this leave me with nice fertilised soil come Spring or have I overly short-cutted by not going through some form of more scientific composting regime ?
