I have a small Sangu Kaku in a small bed about 6ft x 4ft and I would like some ideas for companion plants that will stay relatively short so as not to obscure the coral bark. the tree is planted in a fairly sunny area that gets full sun until about 3pm.
Acer palmatum 'Aoyagi' with its bright green bark is recommended as a companion plant for Sango Kaku Otherwise one of the small leafed hebes? and keep them trimmed to size?
I've just planted A. rufinerve Erythrocladum between 2 Sango kakus. The bright yellow bark makes an amazing contrast. I am also noticing a distinct red flush as it the sap is rising. Aoyagi seems to be the traditional suggestion. -E
