First of all, I would like to say thank you to ExoticRainForest. Let's say I got this enlightment in Anthurium since I found these both are such a cool sites. But you guys never talked about things I need to know. So I try to post this question. Sorry for inproper English words since I was born in Indonesia. Yeah right, Anthurium is booming here. Mostly hybrids of A. Hookeri, A. Jenmanii, A. Plowmanii and others that hard to remember. You know yourself that there are many different in local names of plants you just call it hookeri, jenmanii and plowmanii (or frufless?). We have colour hybrids (red and black) that I never found the pics in any sites but of course our local plants dealer include the price of the plants. The question is how this thing can be happened ?. I notice A. Marie but we have A. black marie here. Same look but we got very dark green to brown of leaves so we call it black marie. Tell me about it, or is it just a creation of our local nursery ???.
Anthurium Keris Silver, looks amazing , I wonder what it is ?. Could be a hybrid of berriozabalense , I see that listed as 'Bat Wing' . Certainly lots for sale in Indonesia .
According to Steve and Marie Nock in Miami, FL who created the Anthurium 'marie' hybrid, the plant can turn almost completely black in very bright light. Some growers have reported growing them in near full sunlight. Mine is in bright light but is still green, although it is now large. It was a gift and was only a few inches (perhaps 7 or 8cm) tall 2 years ago when it arrived. The blades are now well over three feet (1.8 meters). Enid Offolter at Natural Selections Exotics often recommends growing the hybrid in bright light. Blackbeauty, I'm glad you found my information useful. From personal email sent from your countrymen I suspect many of the most popular specimens in your country are hybrids rather than species. Just like LariAnn does in the United States, it is now popular to grow cross pollinated specimens and see what you can create. There is nothing wrong with a hybrid Anthurium, I just prefer to grow and collect species since I can find more scientific information. Every collector has to choose what they do and don't wish to collect. As a result, I often write about species rather than hybrids.
Wow, trikus so u know our local name 'Keris Silver'. And there are 'Keris Black' and 'Keris Red'. Yeah right guys, my countrymen have a lot of hybrids because of cross pollination. First thing is not always about science. Most it is because when the spadhex got rippen and nectared they won't let it wasted or let the insect or wind do their help, they will try to find other plants that to pollinate the sphadex. Lol. And if the appereance doen't look great they don't sell it but if it is good, boom. I myself not a really collector. I just fall in love to this foliage anthurium since there was booming in my country. I did Anthurium hunting and buy a plant for myself, from profit I made. It is very expensive for me to get my own money out of my pocket to buy foliage Anthurium. Now I have Illewnii (people said it was failed cross pollination between 'Keris >< A. Superboom), 2 black Anthurium and 2 cross pollination of Hookerii >< Plowmanii, one of the black that seems better than other is now about 15 cm (thanks u knew that I use this measurement), the ptiole have mixed brown, dark red and dark green. And the blade is stiff green to black. More when I just give it morning sunbathing (6 or 7 - 8 am) before I put it back under terrace. You're rite about full bright lite. Once I forgot and left it under sun until 10 am. The leave turn darker. I was afraid the plant went die, but it's not. Talking about 2 years to 1.8 metres of blade (God, I will left my plant around yours so it will get the same treatment from you, if your place is just around my neighbourhood) , I think it will be worth waiting for this such kind of beauty.
