I've had this great smelling light purple rose for 4 years now, but this year for some unknown reason the blooms are a scarlet red and only about 1/4 the size of what they were last year. It's not a graft but it is a hybrid. The strange part is that I have 2 branches that still have light purple flowers. Can anyone explain this???? I'm stumped, lol.

It really sounds like a grafted plant sending up shoots from the rootstock. Are you sure it is not grafted?

No it's definitely not a grafted rose. Even if it was, it would have shown different colors before now. It's 5 years old and this is the first time it hasn't come out fragrant and light purple. It's ok though, my neighbour likes red roses so she can have it.

I'm not sure how to post a photo on this site, but I'll give it a try. The purple blossom hasn't bloomed yet but the red ones are out and almost done now. Hope it worked
