I have a very large colocasia. It get full afternoon and evening sunlight. We water generously. We have red spots on the stems and the leaves are starting to look faded(a light pale almost white in color. Where the veins meet in the center it looks like a small fuzzy weblike substance on the leaf. Is this spider mites or white flies on them and how do I treat them to get rid of this?
Spider mites, squish, or sprat with hort oil. however, if your getting the oil on them with all the sun the leaves will fry. You can also go and get stuff to spray on them from a nursery that maybe won't cook the leaves.
Give the leaves, especially the underside, a good spray, with a nozzle that will provide a strong enough jet. Do this twice a day, every day, for 5-7 days. It's the hot dry conditions that they relish, but they do not like damp, wet places.
