I saw this grass a couple of days ago at an estuary in Christchurch, New Zealand. It may or may not be a native grass and was growing right at the high water line, thriving in what would be very salty tidal sand. It had a strong glaucous tint, and some of the leaves were narrow, possibly rolled, while others were broader and flatter. The flower/seedheads were quite distinctive, closely adpressed to the stems and quite blunt at the tip. The effect was reminiscent of Lolium. The plant was around 30-40cm high and seemed to be spreading well. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Think I may have solved this one: Elymus farctus aka Elytrigia juncea.
