I have four Colorado Blue Spruce's I planted about four years ago that will not thrive. Their upward growth is extremely slow, and the branches don't grow straight, they curve (not droop, as in gravity is pulling them down, but they seem to undulate up and down, left and right.) In addition to this, there are sections on the branch where all needles have fallen off. All four are in the path of a neighbor's downspout, and the native soil is pretty compacted, so water will pool in the planting hole. It also seemed to get worse when I cut more sod from around the base, and added more mulch. Too much moisture seems an easy diagnosis, but I'm wondering if: 1. there are other factors I should consider, and; 2. if relocation would help them thrive more (as oppposed to sending them to the chipper.) Any help is greatly appreciated!!
