I have a well established, healthy Clematis Armandi that bloomed beautifully this spring. In the past few weeks however, many of the leaves on the older part of the vine have turned brown and appear dead. The newer growth at the end of the vine looks fine. What could be the problem?

The leaves don't last for ever! The old ones from previous years die and drop off, after the new ones have expanded.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the brown part of the vine is on the arch over my gate. If I remove the dead leaves, will new ones grow?
