I have a cleaveland pear tree that started out looking like a charlie brown tree but in the one year i've had it, it has grown about 10 feet high. It has soil mixed with sand and is close to a septic field. This year the some of the leaves have been turning reddish brown. I also sprayed it for japanese beetles but the browning was happening before that. I am very attached to that tree being it has come along way from just a stick. It gets alot of sun. Any clues??? thanks, katyellen

Pyrus calleryana Chanticleer (R) ('Cleveland Select'). An ornamental pear, not an orchard variety. May be having problems with drying out due to soil mixed with sand. Or a bacterial fungal/bacterial pathogen is turning the leaves brown. Like other trees belonging to the rose family, pears can be subject to a variety of pests and diseases.
