Clearing corn stalks from the garden can be difficult to reduce if they are allowed to dry. My method is to pull up the whole stalk, when still green, loosening the root with a fork. The stalks are then put through the chipper/shredder and blown onto the compost pile. In lieu of a chipper/shredder a machete and block does a reasonable job of reducing the stalks.
