How long does it take an orange seed to germinate? I received some wonderful honebell oranges from Florida, saved and dried the seeds, soaked overnight and planted in a seed starter potting soil. Do you think these seeds will sprout or did I do something wrong?

I've not had any problem germinating citrus seeds. They usually begin to germinate after 14-30 days at around 21C/70F. This time can be reduced by removing the seed coat. Keep the medium moist but not wet as that would lead to rot. Be aware that if fruit production is what you're after you'd be better off to buy a grafted tree as it could be many years before one grown from seed begins to bear. In addition, you'll get the cultivated variety which a seed may not give you.

Wheather or not they germinate, depends how long you dried them. Citrus seed will soon lose viability quickly when dried for very long. Best to plant them directly from the fruit.- Millet
