I visited Thrifty Foods after seeing their recent TV commercial for organic citrus fruit. There were a number of varieties on display including some uncommon ones: melogold grapefruit, red pummelo, moro blood orange, limequats, kumquats, mango orange, torange (ponderosa lemon). The grower, Deer Creek Heights Ranch, has a list of varieties it produces. You may want to check out what's available at your local outlet. The staff I spoke to were most impressed by the flavorful oranges. I look forward to trying the selection I ended up buying.

Anyone know what cultivar the mango orange might be?

Spotted a couple more less common citrus fruits, again at Whole Foods: Tarocco blood orange and Honeygold grapefruit.

The Mango orange is a sub-acid orange that allows those that cannot otherwise eat citrus fruit to do so. It is still high in Vitamin C and has a very delicate ant sweet flavor that will remind you of mangos, hence the name that we have given it.

Cornucopia II - A Source Book of Edible Plants (1998 Stephen Facciola) gives Mango Orange as an alternative name for 'Vainiglia Sanguigno'. He notes that it is becoming popular in specialty markets in the US.

Thanks for solving the mystery, Ron. (What don't you know?)
