I was asked by a person who has just moved here from the mid-west if Choke Cherrries grow here in the PNW? And if so which type is best suited? barb
Most seen in local plantings are purple-leaved cultivars. These are not rare here. As with just about all other stone fruits there can be pest or disease issues that become noticeable on a given site. There is a small shrubby, suckering patch of native choke cherries on a hot-looking, exposed bedrock outcropping in the Skagit Valley, along Dodge Valley Road.
