This unusual fruit can be eaten fresh or it makes a wonderful jelly, which took me a couple of years to come up with a good recipe.

This vine is undemanding and will grow quickly, but can smother other plants if not controlled. It also requires two cultivar to produce fruit well. The fat purple pods - up to 10cm long - will split when ripe and contain a seedy pulp.......which we affectionately call "alien slugs".

EDIT, this is why we call them alien slugs....
