    Hi Everyone,

I purchased two chili plants at a local grocery in May 2007. One was labeled "Pepper 'Super Chili'" and the other was labelled "Chili Red." They have both since developed fruit and they look identical, leading me to believe that they were perhaps mislabeled. I looked up pictures of the Super Chili variety and it looks nothing like my plants. I was hoping to eat the chilis once they ripened, but now I am a bit worried that I don't know what the heck they are!

Anyway, I have two so-so quality pictures of the plants and I was hoping that someone on here might be able to reassure me that these are ok to eat and tell me exactly what variety of chili they might be. I really really appreciate the help. This is a great forum which I've always just lurked on.

    Thank you!

    Marie

From my reading on this subject I've learned that all true
Capsicums are edible. Some ornamental Chili's may taste bad
or be too hot to use but are harmless.

These look a fair bit like one I had which were labelled "Cayenne". If they're the same, they're reasonably hot and very tasty.

Thank you both for your prompt and helpful replies! I feel much better about eating the peppers now.

These chili plants are very common in Singapore and Malaysia.
    Definitely edible.
