I've noticed that some of my next year's canes have blossoms on the top portion of the canes. Some years these will even become fruit. What causes this and is it detrimental to next year's production? I cut out my old canes at the beginning of September.

June bearing raspberries often produce some blossoms at the end of the new canes, depending on the weather during the growing season. I suspect that the everbearing varieties are just selections from the June bearing types. I've often had ripe berries develop on some of my June bearing plants, especially if the weather was warm and reasonably dry through October. It certainly doesn't cause any harm. The blooming portions of the canes will die at the end of the growing season; so they can be cut out anytime. It doesn't seem to have much impact on the following season, since the amount of fruit produced is small.
