My husband and I have chickens, and this past winter my husband dumped the manure and wood shavings onto the garden. I would think 1-3cm worth over most of it. I was immediately worried about the outcome, but it was done so I have dug it into the soil. I know there is a chance of burning whatever I plant this year. My questions are
    1) What sort of test should I do to see where the soil is at
    2) What might I add to it to avert any problems
    3) what vegetables will do ok in a chicken manurish garden, and which should I just forget about this year?

Don't worry, be happy! I have used chicken manure on my veggies, roses & in my compost heaps for several years. I Have just dug in about a 1 inch layer on the parts of garden that will have heavy feeders planted. in a few weeks, in my experience, any burning effect will be gone. The only time I have burnt anything with my mixture of chips & chicken manure is when I got it fresh onto young leaves.

It IS powerful stuff & I have had to back-off this year, since I tend to over fertilize.
So, my best guess is relax. Plant. Stand back.
