Please help! An old black cherry tree standing in our front yard is being accused of staining our neighbors driveway. Admittedly, the driveway has several rust stains that run down the slope of the driveway, however, I am not convinced that it is from our tree. Walking around the town, I have noticed similiar stains on sidewalks where no cherry tree is in site. Could anyone shed any light on this matter to help save our tree. thank you. patti

The cherries may produce some small spots of purple staining for a few days in the summer when they are ripe, but that soon fades after a rainy day or two. Other stains will have other causes, such as water running from a rusty drainpipe.

But a few stains on a driveway . . . so what!! They need to get real! Even if the tree was responsible, just tell them, no, you won't remove a valuable tree for such a ridiculously trivial reason. It's your tree, and your right to keep it.

Parts hanging over their side will be considered to belong to them in many locations. If sufficiently bothered by fruit mess may end up hacking off their part of the tree.

Here I now have neighbors reaching over fence on our property to cut my shrubs, without prior discussion.
