    Hello,

I have a sweet cherry tree planted last year, this year it has a lot of fruits on it and the leaves looks okey. Today I noticed that the bark at the base is exfolaiting and under it there is a layer of black fungus like thing over the tree. Also the bark over the diseased area is loose and I think it will also peel of easily.

The tree is in my garden and sprinkler system waters the lawn everday, I think the moisture on the bark can be the reason for this problem. I checked inetrnet and it looks like bacterial canker but there is no sap exudation or any other lesion on the diseased area only bark peeling of and black layer under it.

Any ideas on diagnosis and treatment ?

    Best wishes,

    Ahmet,
