My cherry trees (bing) are being munched on by a mysterious pest. The leaves are turning nibble spots all throughout & there are several single threads draping from branch to branch. I've found web spun around the tips of branches but I've yet to actually see any critters. What's more, the culprit has discovered my pear tree & left it's tell-tale threads behind. I've sprayed a general mite/aphid/etc. pesticide several times now, but to no avail. (Temp. may be too low, however, & we've begun to see more rain) What might be snacking on my young trees, & how can I DESTROY the rascal?
Hi othello--at this time of year, I'd let the pests have the leaves...they will fall in the next month or so anyway and the tree won't be harmed now by their munching. You may wish to spray with dormant oil overwinter, quite easy on the environment and may set you up better for next spring's growing season.
