But she's lovely. We had one many years ago, a wonderful breed.

I quite agree, @wind-borne ! Here's my contribution from this glorious sunny morning - let's keep this one going too!

Bloodgood, Blue Moon, Crimson Princess, Jordan:

    20220528 Bloodgood.jpg 20220528 Blue Moon.jpg 20220528 Crimson Pricess.jpg 20220528 Jordan.jpg

    Kin Pai, Miwa, Moonrise, Ornatum:

    20220528 Kin Pai.jpg 20220528 Miwa.jpg 20220528 Moonrise.jpg 20220528 Ornatum.jpg

    Orange Lace x2, Osakazuki, Ryusen:

    20220528 Orange Lace-1.jpg 20220528 Orange Lace-2.jpg 20220528 Osakazuki-2.jpg 20220528 Ryusen.jpg

Shigitatsu Sawa (top) & Beni Shigitatsu Sawa (bottom), Shirazz, Tamukeyama, Zoe:

    20220528 Shigitatsu Sawa, A. Shigitatsu Sawa.jpg 20220528 Shirazz.jpg 20220528 Tamukeyama.jpg 20220528 Zoe.jpg

And a group photo after I did some rearranging yesterday: I loooove my new massive Tamukeyama, but I'l put it in a spot that was apparently too unprotected and the wind broke off a branch... Cue rearranging all the trees so it's now hopefully a bit more protected (and adds some interesting height to my 'big tree' corner) Hoping it gets enough sun in this spot to keep its colour - we'll see.

Okay, just one more post here today because this little thing makes me smile. I call it my 'Cruella DeVille' setup - my Viridis and Orangeola are so similar in size and shape, I couldn't help but arrange them like this. If only those trunks were a little closer together, I might be able to pass it off as one (very weird) tree!

Sorry to hear that J, had it myself in March, wasn't nice, but along with three covid jabs it was OK. Glad you have some wonderful maples to cheer you up. Along with Maggie of course....

Unfortunately, I won't be able to visit this Sunday. Have to just FaceTime...

Oh, you are absolutely welcome. Sadly I lost all the cultivars that I bought last year down at the coast. I still have the two cheapie palmatums which have now grown to around 6' tall. We have a spot to plant one of them, just not sure where to put the second one. It gets pretty windy here sometimes, and there's not really much shelter on the majority of the property. I have observed that the local JM's that survived our last crazy winter are all red, and they are all mature trees. Not a single green leaved version to be seen anywhere. Next time I will know better.

As Reticulatum Purple has been talked about on the forum by N @D97x7 and Xi @Xi-feng re how deep purple it goes. I thought I would add 3 photos of mine from a few minutes ago. It is in full sun from morning to night BTW.

Update on this, ‘Yellow Cascade’ dropped every leaf and pushed out some new growth which then shriveled and fell off as well. It looks like it’s starting to turn black, so I think it is dead.

‘Wako Nishiki’ did the same thing dropped all leaves then sprouted some new ones that shriveled up. It’s trying to push out a few more tiny leaves so I have a little hope.

‘Hot Tamale’ and ‘Hot Blonde’ kept about 1/3 of their leaves and have put on lots of new leaves. They are both doing great and love the sun.

‘Bling Bling’ dropped every leaf and has pushed out some very tiny new leaves. It is where ‘Wako Nishiki’ was a few weeks ago before the new leaves shriveled. I am hoping this one has better luck.

Just a bad spring overall. I also lost ‘Sunny’, ‘Yuki Yama’ and ‘Japanese Princess’ to the late frost and snow in mid April. I just ordered a ‘O Jishi’ to replace the ‘Japanese Princess’ and ‘Sunny Sister’ to replace ‘Sunny’.

    Picture of ‘Hot Tamale’

Sounds something like our winter here. We're probably a few hundred kilometres above you, so sort of similar weather this past winter. I think what happened is that we had that early warming trend, which caused a flush of growth. Then more cold which killed it all off.

So sorry to hear this tale @Worldly_Wrangler, but as Keith said, the warm in Spring and then the cold will see off many a young maple if not protected. Are you getting some free replacements ? I would be on the phone to your supplier asking for this.
