It would be amazing to have every species of maple in a garden. a mini maple botanic garden!

I have about a dozen or so A. palm/oenum cvs and a batch of Acer mono (Acer pictum subsp. mono ?) in trays outside, but so far, none are germinating.

Too soon for "natural stratification" I think. Though the weather has been very mild here, we're going to have between 0°C and -3°C at night from Sunday to Tuesday because the sky will clear. It was 14°C this afternoon, and no wind...

Not often posted on the forum and I don't know why tbh. It's a beautiful tree.
Thanks for adding it to this thread Soumil.

Wow, beautiful colors. I wouldn't mind planting 2 of these on my parkway. But they will probably damage the sidewalk eventually. Seems to be a massive tree.

they wont get very big here though, unless your in the central valley or bay area. there they reach enormous sizes very quickly, 10-15 years due to the rich sierra sediments

It's been a long winter, but there are signs of life stirring in my garden now - and, I hope, the gardens of everyone here! I feel like it's the countdown to Christmas: I go outside and stare at the budding leaves, waiting for them to open just as though they were presents wrapped up and waiting under the tree.

Here are some pics of the 'early wakers' this year, though lots more are about to join them. I can't wait till we get there!

Ahh, thank you D! It's been - quite frankly - a manky winter, and I'm so excited to see the seasons change and hope it brings good things, not least our maples!

As for Japanese Sunrise, I have great news: our mutual friend Stephen Roff has them on eBay!! Please snag one, and post tons of pictures once it arrives: I got mine late in the season last year, but it's such a colourful little bloomer already this spring, I know it will bring you so much joy: Acer palmatum Japanese Sunrise in 9cm pot ideal bonsai subject Senkaki type | eBay
