Good morning everyone, the first day of June and it is hot, hot, hot here in the UK. So lovely to be amongst my trees having coffee and indeed breakfast. That's the sign of Summer. I love it.
Here are a few photos of maples from moments ago in my garden to share.

Even though we may have seen them before, and will surely see them 1,000 times again, they are always a magnificent sight! Thank you for always posting.

Thanks Keith, I only have 175 cultivars, but I do try to rotate as best I can with the photos and what is looking pretty at the time. I just hope people don't get fed up with what I'm posting.

Sorry, what was that? ONLY 175 cultivars....ONLY! Oh dear, what a shame. I will let you know when I get my first one. There is less than no chance that anyone will get "fed up" as you put it, no chance whatsoever. Just keep up the incredibly good work D!

I'll post a photo of mine in the morning R. I'm doing the same as you, morning sun, afternoon dappled shade. Isn't there a saying, 'Great minds think alike'.?? Lol.

Here are the names in order:

    - Bloodgood
    - Osakazuki
    - Sode Nishiki
    - (japonicum) Aconitifolium
    - Wilson's Pink Dwarf
    - Deshojo (turning green atm)
    - Phoenix (turning green as well, I just love the pink tones in there...)
    - Skeeters Broom (got some growing to do...)
    - Dissectum garnet I think (not sure though, see other topic on identification I just posted)
    - Same but close up on leaf
    - Katsura
    - Trompenburg (picture could have been better)
    - Amagi Shiguri (not in the best shape... maybe overfertilized that one as well...)
    - Jerre Schwartz
    - Black Lace
    - Atropurpureum
    - Anne Irene
    - (shir.) Jordan
    - Orange Dream
    - (shir.) Aureum
    - Bi Hoo (cut it back heavily because it was badly damaged from overfertilizing I think...)
    - Dissectum garnet
    - Dissectum

Yeah, D, I took out all the damaged parts. It was growing very very nicely until the bad things starting happening two weeks ago. I don't see it spreading atm so my guess is probably it was too much fertilizer. Let's see what happens the coming months.

Do acers have 2 growth periods per year? They seem to have come to a halt at the moment. Will they grow on in later summer?

I don't think so K. This tree reminds me of the film, 'The curious case of Benjamin Button'.Lol.

The die back every year on everyone else's I've seen, in all positions in friends gardens is the same.
You are doing nothing wrong IMO.

From what I can observe here, yes, especially if the end of June/beginning of July is rainy. And provided that the roots have enough soil, esp. when in containers. But I suppose it's about the same everywhere...

Yes K, they will have a second spurt usually in late June where I live.
