    Hi Luke.
I lost my Shojo Nomura this winter and it was one of my favourites. I’ve been struggling to find another one, where did you get yours.
My original was from Pattersons who were a specialist and are no longer trading

This is my Jordan. It does need good shade from afternoon sun. Very bright and a good performer if kept out of afternoon sun. I had to move mine as it used to burn badly.

It looks promising. A lot don’t make it through the second year.
Need to grow it on now and see how robust it is and the growth habit. At least you know you have something different.

Hi Jaybee63, perfect position for Jordan, lovely photo.
Re Shojo Nomura, I've been looking for one for a whole as well. I've got my name down with Hippopotering, but think it's going to be a long wait. They list it at £55 plus postage.

The leaves are fairly large, here’s a pic to give a sense of scale

Agree Jaybee63, it will be assessed over the coming years and if all goes well I will update the UBC forum. It's the very first time I've had a maple that is so different and it has come from my garden, am so pleased!! Thankyou for your kind words of support.

    I
Its really worth having. An eye catcher with nice form and had been trouble free until this year. Dieback which I missed and didn’t get the chance to cut out until it went past the graft.

I collect seed and put it in the fridge for 3 months with damp perlite, but not so sure I need to bother any more. I have baby maples popping up everywhere, so when I find one that is interesting, I often won’t know it’s parentage. The seeds travel far from the patent in the wind.

I dont know about everyone else, but seedlings are the most exciting of all.
You can fully understand the Victorian seed collectors risking their lives to collect from all over the world.
The maple society seed sharing scheme is such a good idea to be involved with as you never really know what will poke it's way through the compost.

Your seedling is very interesting..is it still leaving out or does it retain that Peve Starfish look? Nice chocolate colour

Hi dicky5ash, it has leafed out now. It was strong last year all through the seasons. The chocolate colour fades a bit through the summer gaining a touch of green. The fingers stay quite pronounced throughout. I have Starfish and strapleaf maples in my garden, but nothing like this one at all. I do have another seedling that's quite different from anything I've seen to date, so perhaps I should post it for comments?

Okay, this seedling came up beneath my Osakasuki, I potted it up in 2019 and it's still going strong. This year will tell!!
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, in 42 years of growing maples my wife and I have only had the ordinary seedlings pop up. Then in just one year 'Spring 2018' two strange ones arrive. That's a 'long wait' in anybody's language. They better be good there's not another 42 years in me to get another two lol.

They operate out of 2 separate nurseries called Leaf Creative Dedesigns and Howle Hill Nurseries. Both are out between Gloucester and Wales and have, or at least did have a large selection of 3 - 10ltr plants. Unfortunately they dont have a mail order service so I had a drive up there a few months ago. Decent quality and reasonably priced.

Yes so I see, dont think the police would tolerate going out to buy a maple as a reasonable excuse atm. Lol

One to remember though, thanks again Luke.

Hi Davethefish, what lovely specimens and all in a great garden. You obviously like most of us on this forum like the Japanese style garden. Thankyou for sharing these photos.
