My Shirasawanum 'Aureum' is far from being at its best in spite of a "slip-potting operation". It will need a proper repotting and care next spring :

    acershir-aureum2_200824a.jpg

Slip-potting this 'Jerre Schwartz' that lost all its leaves during the heat wave, on the contrary has worked well (20/07 - 24/08) :

It seemes to have boosted my 'Momoiro koya-san' too. The leaves were scorched, like the ones in the bottom right of the picture. Now, there's a second flush, and new buds showing at the base of the branches :

    The "lawn" (detail) :

@AlainK , I love success stories and this is a success. These stories are so often better than a perfect tree IMO. Regarding your lawn, definitely not Wimbledon Alain, lol.
I totally removed my lawn in 2019 and tbh I thought I would miss it, but I have not. I think with climate change, the green Summer lawn maybe a thing of the past. Also hard to justify these days of having a sprinkler on for hours.

'Beni Hagoromo'. Behind it, an Acer campestre that has more rounded lobes than all those I can see here, including self-sown seedlings in my garden :

    acerp-benihag01_200824a.jpg

A close-up of this unusual Acer campestre. You can see that some of the leaves have hardly any lobes. This one is a mystery. The leaves are much bigger than Acer monspessulanum, the stem have white sap like A. campestre, and it can easily be reproduced by root cuttings.

    acerc000_200824a.jpg

I worked one as a "bonsai". The leaves are bigger than the "common" species of A. campestre, but can reduce well with bonsai techniques :

Last year, did you see these articles about people in the US (California ?) painting their lawn green ?...

    Found this link :

Can you believe it ? Can anyone with a modicum of common sense believe it ?...

@AlainK, I don't know about anyone else, but please show a photo of your Beni Hagoromo in a few weeks Alain. I bet it just glows amongst the greenery of the Campestre as they colour up at slightly different times.
Your Bonsai is just a picture Alain !!!!

Thanks for the tag @Acerholic - the mushroom is Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, a delicate little critter.

Good morning everyone, a lovely first hour in my garden this morning. So very quiet and still, just bird song to listen to whilst having my first cup of coffee.
Took these rather quickly, but I think they came out OK. They all had a certain glow today and still some new growth. They probably won't later !!!! The darkness has now arrived.
My favourite today is my Aureum, still, holding it's colours well.

    Hope everyone keeps safe today.

    D

Well the day after storm Francis, checking my babies this morning and they have done fairly well.
The wind was gusting at 50mph which they did not like at all.

    Took these few whilst checking.

My favourite today was my Red Dragon.

Not a good photo as this olive is in someone’s garden..but the trunk is probably 1.4m+ and the root flare 2.5M..some very old olives on Paxos..

the pot in the photo is misleading as it’s quite away from the tree

Good morning, Well it's taken a couple of days for everything to calm down and so I took these.
Let's all hope for a safe and good run-in to Autumn.

My favourite today in my garden is my Corallinum.

We have just had yet another thunderstorm and hail stones, but it has at least cleared the air.
Took these afterwards in the hope it gives a little cheer.
My Manyo no sato shows how hard the hail stones hit. Looking quite sorry for itself. But for that reason alone, this is my favourite today.

@LoverOfMaples good morning D, leaves only but no branches, nothing at all compared to what the US is going through atm.
Really feel for you all over there. You are having a nightmarish end to the Summer. Just been reading @Nik postings on the weather thread, quite worrying!!!!
Do hope you are OK D?

We had a brief but intense T-Storm a few days ago. After work I was walking Harry in the dark and stumbled on a gigantic branch that blew off a neighbor's tree, bounced off my house and landed in the backyard. Boris is OK though! We should get the remnants of Hurricane Laura tomorrow.

@dangerine49 good evening J, you had all that happening and Laura tomorrow and you still managed to think about the forum. Hats off to you J.
Great photos, including the tree limb. Lucky none of you were in the garden at the time.
Will be thinking of you tomorrow J.
