Yes - lovely pic of new leaves unfurling. I have only ever seen this one in the Amazing Maples videos. How long have you had this cultivar?

Thanks Acerholic. I love them all yes. So far the Shigatatsu Sawa is my favourite of the 3 but I'm not sure how long that bright green colour and contrast will last. Not long enough!

Hi Luke, only had it for 3 years now, I'm the same saw it on Amazing Maples and had to have it. I got mine from Esveld in Holland.
Yes the original to all the ghosts is Shigitatsu Sawa, it really is special. Needs a bit of protection from tbe sun though. This heat might cause a few problems with young leaves.

Its probably quite difficult to tell until the leaf has fully opened. Please post a pic once it has.

Hi dicky5ash, totally agree re Filigree. 4 wonderful pics, the close up of Aconitifolium would be worthy of a BBC nature programme. Thankyou for sharing these.

The artistic photography of maple enthusiasts on this site is mind blowing.

Hi SLR2009. Taylor is brand new to me. I had it in full sun until 430 and it seemed to be doing great. But we had a good bit of rain with high wind the last 2 days and it does not like high wind. So ive moved it into the green house to recover from leaf burns.

Just found this one as well , it looks so much like a ghost but its Olsons Frosted Strawberry . As I was saying earlier, our grandchildren think all of these are spooky, so they do bring a smile to our faces. Hope they do you also.

Bless, getting quite the thunderstorm out there at the mo, the first rain in a long time, and (having eaten some chocolate already), a prefect chance to upload a few of the pictures I've been taking over the past few days. Of course it's turned to hail now, boff. Well, there's a cup of tea in it, anyway. (Yikes, marble sized hail now, hoping it doesn't do for the apple crop, just getting ready to blossom...)

    Here we have

Acer sinoppurpurascens now in full bloom IMG_20200411_174050.jpg IMG_20200411_174208.jpg IMG_20200411_174404.jpg
Acer pubinerve, the "Chocolate Maple" leafs out almost black. Formerly known as A. wuyuanense IMG_20200411_180440.jpg
Acer chingii, a very unusual Chinese maple, in mature leaves the middle lobes are perpendicular to the center lobe
    IMG_20200411_180555.jpg
Acer sinsense, another Chinese maple, these have very large (15 cm) leaves here. IMG_20200411_180714.jpg
    A. sieboldianum 'Shoryu no tsume' just leafing out IMG_20200411_180751.jpg
Another very attractive Chinese maples, A. flabellatum ssp yunnanense. It was formerly considered a ssp of campbellii. IMG_20200411_181109.jpg
A sycamore selection that leafs out orange, then has nice variegation. Evaluating, but will surely be a cultivar. IMG_20200411_181459.jpg
Wild cherries in the hedges, gorgeous now IMG_20200411_185132.jpg
Acer diabolicum now starting to leaf out IMG_20200411_190140.jpg IMG_20200411_190436.jpg
Just a view back into the aceretum with the late sun catching the still bare branches of A. x conspicuum 'Phoenix' You can see much is still bare, but starting to soften up a little at last. IMG_20200411_190538.jpg

Hi emery, you have the most wonderful and diverse selection of Acers I know other than Westonburt!!!!! The photos are fabulous, I especially like the yellow Sycamore (it glows).
Sadly when I showed these photos to my wife looking longingly at her as to say I would like to buy a few, all I got was a very long Nooooooo!!

Great to have this site to share everyone's trees.

@Acerholic that's very nice of you! Westonbirt is quite a comparison!! Well I have been working on it for a long time, and I know I still have many miles to go, but sometimes I do feel like progress is being made. So thank you.

The sycamore is really a good one, it makes itself known all the way across the garden! It's one of 3 selections I'm currently evaluating in the ground, the only one I don't have a good name for! When it gets big enough to graft on, probably another 2-3 years, I'd be happy to send you one.

Although it's still a bit early for the sycamores to be showing out completely, here's what they looked like today:

    'Leat's Cottage'
    IMG_20200412_160304.jpg
    'Brigada Revolution'
    IMG_20200412_161111.jpg

    'Corstorphinense'

Hi emery, our gardens are never finished but that's the fun of it. Another 10 lovely photos of your Acers. And thankyou for your kind offer.
Hope they all survived the hail stones today. We possibly have frosts tomorrow and Tuesday, so there is always something to worry about!!
