Totally agree Alain, there is always a trade off. But how do you hold them back ? I have mine in morning sun and evening shade as it is. This year has seen the most vivid colours I've ever seen on my Shirasawanum's. Previous years have been green most of the Summer. Perhaps it's an environmental anomaly. I do love the colours I'm getting now, but others will be posting wonderful colours in the Autumn, when mine will be bare branches.

Just had a DPD delivery notice, my Black Lace will be here tomorrow.
Really looking forward to this one. Hope it's as good as @Luke’s Maples and @dicky5ash.
Will post photos as soon as it arrives.

I’m sure yours will be just as pretty as ours. I just realised I say ‘pretty’ rather than ‘handsome’. Are Japanese Maples female? Lol

D, your Mon Papa is wonderful. You can tell it’s the same tree as Westonbirt in the first couple of pics, then wow. The autumn pic is stunning. I must make sure I pay this one another visit in a few months.

@Luke’s Maples, you can see why people have season tickets if they live close. I think I would be walking around there every day if I did.
Thanks for your comments about my Mon Papa Luke . Not bad Autumn colour eh !!!
Are they boys or girls now that is a question !!! I just call them Precious, Lol.

Well done, I'm sure you will get a lot of use out of it in October and November. So busy then though, don't know how the restrictions will work out ??

Very true Luke, you have had a magic year in Maple buying. Don't think anyone else on the forum has increased their collection as you have. How many do you actually have now, including the ones your waiting for?

It’s actually quite hard to enjoy them all. There are so many that I don’t know where to look. I literally can’t see the wood for the trees lol

I think a watering system should be your next purchase, as you don't want the work to take away the enjoyment.

I think I should slow down. This forum combined with videos from @ROEBUK and Amazing Maples hasn’t helped matters lol

That is a great idea. How to even go about such a project?

Perhaps an arrangement like Charlie with walkways and hoses attached. You will then be able to enjoy them and possibly film them like Amazing maples. Something to consider perhaps!!!?

A very good suggestion actually. I might try and arrange them in a way that I can manage and enjoy them more. I have been thinking about doing a video...

I've just taken photos. The wall above the mailbox is about 1m60, I had to push on my toes to take the second photo, the leaves in the shade. The wall covered with ivy is at least 2 metres high.

1/ what it looks like from the street :

2/ the leaves at about 1m from the soil :

    AcerLaChap_200707b.jpg

3/ the leaves at the top (you can see a naked shoot and samaras)

It's not that far from my place, I should perhaps ring their bell one day...

Yes, definitely slow down and enjoy Luke and work out a plan for the Autumn on where you want to place them for best effect. A watering system ready for next Spring will also give you something to look forward to. A similar system that a lot of hanging basket enthusiasts have in place would be ideal.

Hi @AlainK , beautiful indeed but as you said earlier, Autumn colours starting in July, = problems on the horizon. So let's enjoy whilst we can.

Just move to Yorkshire have a great watering system up here it's called 'rain' have it in bucket fulls literally it never ends :) :) managed to get the roses back into position today , lots of metal stakes twine and paving blocks and everything is up right again until the next bought of wind, mind you not a drop of wind today and not a single leaf moving on anything very strange have become that used to seeing everything blown around , but we did have rain all day and more to come this week , so there's my watering done for the whole of next week , saying that it's supposed to be nice next week ?
