I know this plant is probably compost material but I thought it was just so disgusting I had to share! I didn't even want to touch it, it was so gross.

I only bought it two weeks ago so it wasn't my fault! I was just getting ready to re-pot it and found this. Gross!

Does anyone know what kind of plant this is? What the heck happened to it? I hope I can find my receipt...

It appears to be a lethal case of root rot. Likely from overwatering. I lost a very nice cactus several years ago. It looked pretty much the same. The inside is all rotted out, but the outside appears somewhat intact.

Take an otherwise healthy cactus, plant it in a commercial "cacti and succulent" mix, put it in a warm, humid greenhouse, and then overwater it, and "Ta-Da!"...dead cactus.
