Hello, I have 2 - 12 year old Chamaecyparis nootkatensis in my yard. They are approx 15' in height. They have always seemed healthy and happy in my sun/part shade yard. This year I have badly yellowing needles along every branch and I notice that sap is running from where the branches emerge. They are receiving regular watering although one tap was dripping (we found out just lately). We have since repaired this. Honestly the other one is doing the same thing (only less severe and it did not get overloaded with water) I don't want to lose these trees! What can I do?

They like very good drainage. they are commonly referred to as 'Yellow cedars' which may cause some people to believe they like moist areas like the 'Red cedar', Thuja plicata.

Check the soil, and the water pH. Nootka Cypress is only moderately tolerant of waterlogging and lime, and also doesn't like compacted soil.
