Ok, I hope this one is obscure enough that I'll finally stump everyone. Photograph taken on May 11.

 

Looks like an Escallonia.

 

Nope, this plant is Asian (for others reading, the genus Escallonia is restricted to South America).

Viburnum chingii?

 

No, not a cultivated fruit tree. However, at least one member of the genus in North America has edible fruits.

 

And David gets it again!

 

Here's a pic where it gives decent clues that it's a Viburnum.
