I have one of these in my Tsawwassen front garden, and it is about 5 years old. Alas it does not seem to prosper!

It is in a sunny spot and is watered regularly. But each year we seem to get a lot of die-back and not nearly the growth or leafing out you would expect. It is doing so badly this year...only half leafing out...that I expect we are fighting a losing battle and will have to start over.

But I have to say, I LOVE this tree.

Do they all struggle in this climate or do I just have a dud specimen?

    Regards,
    Janet

Dieback and failures of redbuds are frequent, regardless of geographic location.

Ron, I have two questions for you, if you don't mind!

    1. I have seen these thriving locally...is there some special TLC or growing conditions that help them?

    2. What is a good alternative that does thrive locally that looks similar?

    Many thanks,
    Janet
