Central texas tree identification

    I would like some help in identifying this tree growing in Central Texas, Bell County

    I see some resemblance to Ilex vomitoria in the foliage picture. Whatever its identification, that wire should come off the trunk.

    Wire is only very temporary holiday lights!

    Probably Quercus fusiformis "Escarpment Live Oak"

    Yes, you'd expect a holly to have smooth bark. And if the tree is part of a native thicket an oak would certainly be likely.
