Is this Centaurea gymnocarpa? Are those oval webbed-looking things below the petals their seed pod? Can they be propagated by seed? Maybe I should have posted this under propagation? Well, first I want to know what it is! :-) Thanks
Seed pods don't co-exist with flowers; I can't recall if these pouches actually become the seed pods or not. However, these plants are so easy to divide that there is little rationale for growing from seed.
Agreed, Centaurea montana (Perennial Cornflower); native to Europe. The seeds do develop in the bulbous bit at the base of the flowerhead, but won't be ripe until some time after the blue petals have dropped off.
Re: Centaurea gymnocarpa? solved Thank you all for answering my 3 questions. My rationale for growing from seed is just to see if I can do it!! :D
