I had a cedar hedge of about 80 feet that contained about 40 unmaintained cedars that were quite over grown about 35-40 feet high. I decided to cut the entire hedge down and am now dealing with the strumps. I am wondering about digging up the stumps, but haven't a clue about the nature of cedar roots. Would it be complelely unbearable? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

They are a fairly shallow rooted conifer & shouldn't have many vertical roots. It's not going to be like a pine stump but will still be quite a chore....with that many to do, hire/rent a stump grinder or backhoe if you want to be done before 2010.
