I own a tree farm on vancouver island which has recently been targeted by bough harvesters. they have cut 60-90% of the branches on 30-100ft trees. Will this kill the cedars?

most likely damage them at the least! that sounds like a lot of pruning. not good to lose that much foliage.

90% removal will very likely kill them.

Have some DNA tests done on the surviving foliage, and get the police to investigate local florists suppliers to try and trace who did it.

Silver Fir or Cedar? Majority of the greens sold are sold at United flower growers Coop in Burnaby. I know a couple of buyers in Richmond who have crews on the Island harvesting for making christmas reefes and garlands. 50 cents a pound for cedar and $1.75lb for what they call Silver Fir. It doesnt take long to make $500- $1000 a day, and they will buy as much as you can cut between oct-dec. Horrible to think someone would do that to your tree farm when there a miles of forest that give permission to cut, or miles of BC Hydro substations surrounded by cedars, oops did I say that?

Too bad about the Cedar trees. If there are still some branches on the top then they will survive but will no doubt be stunted. Also where in Richmond are these buyers? Could I get some information there whereabouts? Regards

Jaco it has been a few years since I was in contact with any greens buyers. I don't have any numbers of contacts sorry. You could put a call into the United Flower Growers Coop in Bby, they're pretty friendly there. They may be able to steer you into the right direction. This does make for a great way to fund raise for cubs, scouts, and many other personal or non profit organizations. Regards , Jim.

Thanks for the information. I will try the burnaby one and see what they say.
And yes it could make great for cubs ect. I wonder how many places would buy branches in BC?
