I have a Cattelya now for over a year, bought after it finished blooming. It has grown three new sheaths, but when I was repotting it, I accidentally decapitated the youngest sheath i.e. the leaf is cut squarely off but above the uppermost notch. Would it still bloom? Should I do anything?

Only time will tell for sure but you probably won't have any trouble . If your Cattleya's bud sheath has been severed above the emerging buds you will want to be careful about getting water in the opening and starting any rot. I have a Cattleya type orchid (Slc. Hazel Boyd 'Sunset' but all Cattleya hybrids are undergoing annoying name changes) that, under my growing conditions, needs to have the sheaths split open because buds can rot within them. I have another Catt that blooms on growths that have sheaths and on others that don't develope a sheath at all.

    Good luck
